Organisation: NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde
Project: Backlog Maintenance Works
Value: £18.1 million
Timescale: 2007-2009
The Backlog Maintenance Works consisted of some 130 small to medium projects covering the whole of NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde region. This involved a great deal of research and scope development visiting all of the main locations within the sector offering the foundation stone of the Alterego development of National Health Board specific regulatory requirements under "Health Technical Memorandum", Infection control and Health & Safety. It was extremely demanding from the word go dealing with all designations such as Estates, Facilities, User management from Director level to lower managements, who it has to say had their own unique methods which sometimes differed from hospital to hospital.
Being involved in managing such projects, which could affect patient care if not managed correctly had many frustrations but ultimately developed numerous rewards which offered clear benefit to both the operational needs of each location and in some cases assisted with patient care enhancement.
It is important to note that over £18.1 Million worth of backlog maintenance projects were managed by Alterego over a 2 year period but in reality the works were covered over two six month periods spread over 2 financial years.
All projects involved the full procedures of selecting design teams and contractors through the strict tender process, progressive scope development to a positive stage, through to delivery and monitoring of defects to closure.
All projects were completed on programme and on budget.
