Porters Office relocation and additional upgrading of main foyer & waiting areas - IRH

Works carried out over a period of 12 weeks. Involved the relocation of Porters office to facilitate a more practical working environment for the staff. The main controls for systems for the hospital were located within the existing, so a large element of the works were associated with the upgrading of these controls and careful relocation without disruption to the hospital.

We created a purpose built patient waiting area offering a more conducive directional flow of patient activity before they left the hospital premises.

One of the main aspects of the work was the major upgrade of the foyer and cafeteria area, creating an improved welcoming aesthetic atmosphere and comfortable environment whilst entering or leaving the hospital. Improved conducive lighting and a much enhanced, brighter approach was created.

This successful project was challenging due to the co-ordination considerations which had to be implemented to ensure that the flow of access for patients, visitors and staff members were not restricted at any time. A majority of the contractor's activities were conducted during nightshift to avoid un-necessary disruption.

Challenges existed with:

  • Asbestos removal
  • Dust Control
  • Lighting whilst construction works were ongoing
  • Flooring installation
  • Maintaining Controls Systems
