Organisation: NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde
Hospital: Gartnavel General Hospital
Project: New Twin Theatres
Value: £3.52 million
Timescale: over 6 months between 2010-2011
The project consisted of the building of 2 No Theatres, within close proximity to other Theatres, which had to be operational at all times.
Project design was extensive with due consultation with all relevant departments and original budget constraints led to a delay in the works commencing.
Extensive works were carried out to create these high tech units, which were soon recognised as the most advanced within the Glasgow & Clyde Health Board.
Design Teams and contractors were successfully managed to complete this project, overcoming the problems whilst working within an existing building.
The issues were:
• Existing drainage externally.
• Existing drainage internally.
• Risk of flooding to areas below.
• Electrical Infrastructure.
• Weatherproofing.
• Dust control.
• Connecting to existing ventilation systems
• Infection control.
• Working above such a delicate operational environment
The careful and delicate co-ordination once again with the following was essential with the following members:
• Facilities
• Estates
• Infection Control
• User Management
• Health & Safety
• Fire Advisor
